Volunteer Opportunities at The Brainerd Center

Volunteerism is the heartbeat of a strong community. When people give their time, skills, and compassion, something powerful happens—connections are formed, lives are enriched, and everyone benefits.

Volunteers help organizations do more than they could ever do alone, but the impact goes far beyond services and programs. Volunteering builds friendships, creates a sense of purpose, and reminds us that we all have something valuable to offer. It brings people of different backgrounds together with a shared goal: making their community a better place.

At its core, volunteerism is about showing up—for neighbors, for causes, and for each other. Whether it’s lending a hand at an event, sharing a talent, or simply offering a smile, every act of service matters. Strong communities don’t happen by accident—they’re built by people who care enough to give back.

So much of what happens at The Center is volunteer driven. Our cherished volunteers help make The Center a welcoming place where adults can stay active, connected, and engaged. From assisting with events and programs to greeting members, serving meals, or lending a hand behind the scenes, volunteers ensure that daily activities run smoothly and that everyone who walks through the doors feels valued.

Just as important, volunteering builds meaningful relationships. It creates friendships across generations, fosters a sense of purpose, and offers the chance to give back to a place that gives so much in return. Many volunteers say they receive just as much as they give—connection, laughter, and the joy of being part of something bigger. Staying busy and doing activities that include human interaction is a very important piece of our mental health and this is especially true for the more mature population.

The Center thrives because of volunteers who care. Their generosity helps keep programs affordable, traditions alive, and our community strong. Simply put, volunteering at The Center helps ensure it remains a vibrant, supportive place for today and for generations to come.
